Industry Quality Assurance (QA) Programs The PigPass National Vendor Declaration (NVD) includes key questions relating to farm practices, supported by an appropriate farm records system. The use of the PigPass NVD linked to a certified and audited on farm QA program meets the requirements of State Food Authorities and AQIS for the hygienic production and transport of meat and meat products for human consumption. Refer to Australian Standard AS4696 - 2007. Supply chain members recognise the Australian Pork Industry Quality Assurance (APIQ  ® ) Program as providing the appropriate level of food safety assurance for their market needs. However, other recognised QA programs such as ISO9002 or SQF1000 may also be acceptable if they address risks associated with chemical residues, either from direct use or exposure to contaminants.Principles agreed to by the NLIS (Pork) joint industry/ government National Consultative Committee (NCC) for acceptability of QA programs for verification of compliance with the Australian Standard AS4696 - 2007 on The Hygienic Production and Transport of Meat and Meat Products for Human Consumption are that the programs: - Address production food safety risks; - Are compatible with joint industry/ government traceability systems; - Are approved/ certified by a recognized body; and - Are auditable and subject to regular audit through a recognized audit program. Producers should check with their buyer or regulatory authority if they are unsure of requirements.
